Smooth acrylic sheet can serve as a dry erase board because its nonporous surface keeps marker ink from soaking into the material. Glossy clear or white acrylic usually erases more cleanly than frosted, satin, textured, mirrored, or coated sheets, which may retain ink and create ghosting.
Clear acrylic can be mounted over a white wall or printed backing, while white opaque acrylic provides stronger contrast. Before bulk production, test the specified marker after one hour, 24 hours, and repeated writing cycles. Clean the panel with a microfiber cloth and an acrylic-compatible cleaner. Abrasive pads and strong solvents may scratch or haze PMMA.
ISO 7823-1:2003 covers cast PMMA sheets from 1.5 to 25 mm. ISO 7823-2:2003 covers extruded PMMA sheets from 1.5 to 20 mm. Panel size, support structure, mounting points, and writing pressure should determine the required thickness.
